Blessed are they that hunger and thirst

Blessed are they that hunger and thirst

The whole life of the good Christian is a holy longing. What you desire ardently, as yet you do not see.”

So, “let us long because we are to be filled … That is our life, to be exercised by longing.

Saint Augustine of Hippo

We are designed by God to repeatedly desire more, and each day we receive our daily bread, and each day we come back for more.

Stay hungry and thirsty my friend.

Blessed are they who mourn

Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

There is a heaven and this isn't it.

This truth was first made aware to my son as he lost a friend at the age of 8 years old to cancer.  It's the only way I could answer to why did it happen?

The Holy Spirit is promised to go to those that are hurting and draw us to a deeper love of what will one day be and who we will be with, a reminder of the eternal promise.  There are no words that can help, we just need to be held close.  And God has promised that he will when we mourn.

And the deeper our hearts become for the compassion for others.

Do not fear: I am with you;
do not be anxious: I am your God.
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.

Isaiah 41:10

Blessed are the meek

Blessed are the meek

Meek does not mean weak.  It is absolute power under perfect control.

"Not by might, not by power, but by my spirit says the Lord of hosts" - Zechariah 4:6

"I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me" Philippians 4:13

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is God from of old,
creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary,
and his knowledge is beyond scrutiny.
He gives power to the faint,
abundant strength to the weak.
Though young men faint and grow weary,
and youths stagger and fall,
They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength,
they will soar on eagles’ wings;
They will run and not grow weary,
walk and not grow faint.
Isaiah 40:31

Blessed are the poor in spirit

Blessed are the poor in spirit.

Humble and grateful I come to you.  Please empty me of my selfishness and foolish pride.  I am a small child of yours, you are God my Father. I love you and I have so much to learn. The only possession I have is your love.  Thank you for creating me and the patience to mold me, thank you for the protecting me from things that destroy me.  Without the love you place in my heart I have nothing to offer anything, anyone, not even myself.  Your blessings to me are too gracious, I pray that I honor you with both every blessing and every suffering I receive.  Please remind me daily who I am and who you are so I will not waste even one moment to vanity and forget who I belong to.  Show me what you would have me do, open my eyes and ears, open my heart. Today is yours and I am yours.  Thank you for loving me like you do.
